What’s for Dinner?

Chicken Fried Steak!

Actually, this was last night. It was good. It was really good. It was so good, it deserves a mention here.

We followed the recipe for the meat, using cube steak (pre-tenderized for us lazy people) and plain old gluten-free flour mix for the flour. We also cut the ingredients in half, because the two of us can’t eat 2 lbs of meat in one sitting. Well, let’s be honest: we could, but we shouldn’t.

To make the gravy we drew on Carrie’s advice for gluten-free white gravy, and mixed 2 cups of skim milk with the remainder of the flour. Add to the pan and stir gently until thickened. Salt to taste. Try not to eat too quickly.

Thanks to Alton Brown and Carrie, aka Ginger Lemon Girl, for the inspiration!

Now there’s something I’d like ot sink my teeth into! Things like that I’ve missed, not only as a coeliac, but living abroad I don’t even see such things, so I don’t think to even attempt to make it. I’m definitely going to try making that one . . . Thanks for posting it!

I’d also love to know how to make biscuits with the white gravy with bits of sausage in it . . . a Southern food. And VERY good.
