Be Specific!

I wish I had more time to:

try new recipes

write in my blog

run errands

exercise

study Spanish

finish painting the house

read

garden.

What I forgot to specify was that I wish I didn’t have to take a 50% pay cut to get that extra time!

As of tomorrow, I’m working 4 hours a day. The print shop is going through some tough times, and had to make some cuts. I’m profoundly grateful to even be working at all, since one of my coworkers did get laid off. My position is still tenuous – if things don’t turn around, and soon, I might not even have half a job to go to.

So things are going to be rather tight around here for a while. That porch we wanted to add on to the back of the house? Probably not going to happen. The trip to Europe to visit Carla and John this fall? No, not this year. Hopefully next year. Sorry, guys! Even little things are now subject to discussion. New shirt for work? Okay. New running shoes? Can it wait? Yes? Good.

But at least we still have enough to pay the mortgage, even in southern Florida, where I live in the same county as Donald Trump (my house is smaller than his bathroom). We have our health, and I have time to finish painting (paint is cheap). I no longer have any excuse for not being ready for swimsuit season. And watch for more gluten-free recipes, because, hey, I have time to try them now, and write about the results!

Thanks, Tenille! I’m looking on the bright side. Luckily I’m a big fan of Amy Dacyzn, too, and have lived frugally for the last several years. We will be able to weather this. I’m just bummed that we finally had a little extra money to do a couple of fun things, and now they are on hold…

Oh well, priorities, right? I’d rather live simply than live in debt. 🙂
